How does that Red Hot Chili Peppers song go? Ah, yes: "Give it away/give it away/give it away now!"
The iconic funk/rock band is apparently in the giving mood -- and they're doing it in style at the Belly Up on Sunday, Sept. 27. And tickets are already on sale.
You read that right: The Red Hot Chili Peppers are finally returning to San Diego for the first time since 2012, and they're playing an incredibly intimate venue for a band of their renown. But here's the catch (there's always a catch, right?): Tickets are $1,000.
Music. Community. Culture.
Yep -- a cool grand for one ticket.
Before you freak out and throw your phone/laptop across the room in a fit of "Californication"-fueled rage, the concert is a benefit to raise money for youth performing arts education groups including Heartbeat Music Academy, San Diego Young Artists Music Academy and the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, which was co-founded by bassist Flea in 2001 and provides affordable or free lessons and instruments to its eight classrooms of students in an effort to facilitate music education.
So, while we may not be able to afford those $1,000 tickets (even if $750 of it is tax deductible), there are plenty of folks who can, and it's a good cause we can definitely get behind. We're not the only ones who feel that way either: Anthony Kiedis, Eddie Vedder, Metallica, Ryan Gosling (Gos!) and Woody Harrelson are just a few of the Silverlake Conservatory of Music's celebrity supporters.
The RHCP show is just the latest in a series of insane events put on at the Belly Up over the last year or so: If you remember, the Rolling Stones played a special, invite-only private show for one lucky millionaire back in May at the club, while William Morris Endeavor Entertainment (one of the biggest talent agencies in the world) hosted a private concert with Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Aloe Blacc and the Foo Fighters in January. Looks like 2015 is the year of the Belly Up Tavern!
So start saving those pennies or hit up that rich uncle who just drives boats around all day or whatever, and hope tickets are still available -- get yours here now.
