Sounds Like San Diego: September 17

Methyl Ethel's headlining show at the Casbah leads San Diego's Tuesday concert options

Decisions, decisions. It would be impossible to go to a show every night of my life, though people like me and Tim Pyles often try, but sometimes you can pull off a night with multiple shows. I wish tonight was one of those nights, but with both Soda Bar and Casbah only having one opener, it would be ambitious to hope that I could catch singer-songwriter Jesse Marchant (who formerly recorded as JBM) and then swoop over to Kettner Boulevard for Perth's Methyl Ethyl. So how is one to decide? I've had the pleasure of seeing Jesse several times over the years and each performance is more compelling and heartbreaking than the one before. Methyl Ethyl, on the other hand, I've only been able to see once before after their hit "UBU" was all the rage on satellite radio, and their show was super energetic and exciting, albeit very brief. Check out our feature on them by Rutger Rosenborg right here, then decide for yourself. Or keep your options open and see local firecracker Whitney Shay at the Belly Up, join Pyles at the Merrow, or dig that yacht-rock vibe with the Doobie Brothers at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay. Lots of excellent choices, particularly for a Tuesday, and our nights have finally cooled down, so you have no excuses to hermit up.
