Long Live Deadmau5

Deadmau5 -- yes, I'm referring to the oversize-mouse-headed DJ -- will be playing Petco Park this Friday, along with Feed Me, Tommy Lee and DJ Aero.

The Toronto-based DJ, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman is infamous for his all-out dance parties that feature such decadence and sophisticated light shows that they bring out tens of thousands of people. San Diego is just one of 40 stops on his Meowingtons Has tour, which he named after his cat, Professor Meowingtons.

The show was originally slated for Oct. 26 at Soma but demand was so high that it was moved to Petco Park. This will be Deadmau5's first-ever show at a ballpark. The global DJ culture is vast, with nearly everyone claiming they're a DJ, but the ironic thing about Deadmau5 is that he totally rejects that notion. He's criticized DJs in the past for simply playing other people's art; instead, he tries to produce his own music. He can do this because his background is in creating music-writing software, and his electronic musical palate is diverse. Deadmau5 performs everything from dubstep to trance and house.

If you were one of the 15 000 people lucky enough to snag a ticket, be prepared for a cacophony if LED lights assaulting your senses from every angle. It's an absolutely stunning visual spectacle. With strobe lights strong enough to induce seizures and a bass tone that makes the ground shake, sporting a mouse head almost seems practical: You might need the protection.
