Who Will Go From Garage to Glory?

We've picked two local artists for this month's Garage to Glory contest, with the winner going on to perform with Orko Eloheim and Anti-Citizens at SoundDiego LIVE at the Griffin on March 29.

Hip-hop duo Old English is vying with the rapper known as Banish, with the winner likely featured in SoundDiego LIVE coverage in multiple NBC 7 San Diego newscasts, in online video and photo coverage on both SoundDiego and NBCSanDiego and mentioned on all our social media platforms. Twenty-four hours after SoundDiego LIVE on March 29, hundreds of thousands of music fans will know the winning act's name and music.

March's SoundDiego LIVE event is being curated by SD Raps' Quan Vu, who hand-picked Old English and Banish to compete in the Garage to Glory contest.

"Old English strikes a hard-to-attain balance between raw emotion, street savvy and high-art aspirations," Vu said. "Their music exorcises personal demons and addresses 'hood issues on top of really unique beats that sound tailored for a bluesy, after-hours underworld."

As for why he chose Banish, Qu explained, "Not to take away anything from his other skills, but Banish is very good at beating you down on record. He has this gruff voice and hard-hitting production that smacks you in the face repeatedly. Really, I included him because if I hadn't, he'd probably start stealing my lunch money again."
