NBC 7 San Diego Introduces News at Noon

Newscast will feature midday updates and community features

The news doesn’t stop in the morning or begin in the afternoon.

NBC 7 San Diego introduced its noon newscast with a special report on Sept. 9 on the power outage, then kicked off its regular daily report on Monday, Sept. 12. The decision to add the program was prompted by an increase in demand for breaking and community news updates.

“The new midday newscast will deliver an up-to-the-minute look at what’s happening in our community and around the world,” says Greg Dawson, vice-president of news at NBC 7 San Diego.

The show is being anchored by Catherine Garcia, with Whitney Southwick covering weather, guest interviews and other features.

Garcia will also continue to anchor the 4 p.m. News at 4 with longtime NBC 7 San Diego anchorwoman Susan Taylor. Garcia will continue to collaborate with the voiceofsandiego.org on the “San Diego Explained” segments that air on Wednesdays during NBC 7 San Diego's News at 6.

Southwick will still appear on the morning shows, as well, delivering traffic reports and presenting features stories.

The morning show will be followed by We the People With Gloria Allred, which also premiered on Sep. 12.
