Feria, a Latino Health Fair

Thousands of people gathered for the Feria de Salud por tu Familia Latino health fair in Kimball Park, National City.

NBC 7/39 and emcee Whitney Southwick attended this free event targeted at Latinos and many other people affected by diabetes.

Feria offers glucose and cholesterol screenings, as well as healthy living ideas for the whole family.

The American Diabetes Association reports that diabetes is an urgent health problem in the Latino community.  Their rates of diabetes are almost double those of non-Latino whites.  Getting information to the community about the seriousness of diabetes, its risk factors and those who may be at risk and ways to help manage the disease is essential.

The Feria is highly interactive for those with or interested in diabetes. Educational seminars and speakers and live performances were just part of the fun of Feria.
