Chargers Raise Thousands for Elementary Students

San Diego Chargers football players Shaun Phillips, Stephen Cooper, and Antoine Cason raised over $22,000 for After School All-Stars San Diego through exceptional play during the season. Each player pledged a certain donation based on how many tackles or sacks he had, and the sum was matched by local companies Scott & Cronin LLP and The UPS Store locations.

The players are part of a group of NFL players who pledged similar donations either based on stellar defensive play or excellent offensive performance. The donations fund After-School All-Stars programs across the country, which provide physical activities for students after school, regardless of athletic ability or family income. The program promotes teamwork, discipline, and exercise through different sports including soccer, rugby, and flag football.

On March 5th, the Chargers players will present the donation check and run football drills with students in the After-School All-Stars San Diego program at Lincoln Acres Elementary School. This will kick off a 10-week flag football league that involves more than 350 students.
