Free Pancakes or Giving Up Facebook: WWJD?

For some Christians, this week is all about temptation -- both resisting it and giving in.

Some people will start the week by giving in to a stack of free buttermilk pancakes on Fat Tuesday. Lent falls on Wednesday, when others will begin a Facebook fast.

IHOP is giving away the pancakes to celebrate National Pancake Day, also known as Fat Tuesday (or Mardi Gras). Tuesday is the final day of Carnival celebrations happening in New Orleans.

Hungry customers need only head to their local IHOP and ask for the short stack between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday. The idea is to donate the money you save on the pancakes to the Children's Miracle Network

Once the day of feasting is gone, others are resisting temptations like Facebook, according to The Wall Street Journal. Most of these people are a decade or so removed from the undergrad scene Facebook was originally designed for.

Lent is a 40-day liturgical season leading up to Easter where some Christians recognize the time Jesus spent resisting temptation from Satan.

The Journal reported that college students who had given up Facebook for Lent in the past found it to be a brutal, but valuable exercise --  but they had underage drinking and anonymous hookups to fall back on. How will adults stuck on the wrong side of 30 survive?
