Dumpster-Diving Bears Caught on Tape

Onlookers watch as foursome feast on garbage

A group of bears in Northern California proved they're not shy about where their next meal comes from.

Four bears were spotted Dumpster diving in the Placer County town of Auburn Wednesday, no doubt looking for a little lunch.

Curious onlookers watched as the foursome, two of them caught on camera, had a feast from a trash bin behind a burger restaurant. A baby bear even joined in the search for food.

It's not uncommon for bears to wander into neighborhoods from the nearby woods in the Sierra Nevada foothills town. The county's board of supervisors even adopted an ordinance that requires new homes and businesses to provide bear-resistant garbage containers.

Either the bears are smart enough to get through it or the burger joint didn't have one of the bear-proof bins.
