Chinese Attending Hacker Conventions Could Be Denied Visas

An anonymous White House official says that Chinese computer gurus planning to attend hacker conferences in Las Vegas in August could be denied the proper entry visas, according to Reuters.

Organizers with the DefCon and Black Hat hacker conferences were skeptical, noting that the conferences are taped and can be accessed online afterward.

They think the move is a "symbolic" effort -- a swipe at China after five hackers connected to the People's Liberation Army were charged with cybercrimes by U.S. Justice Department officials, PandoDaily reported.

Blocking Chinese nationals from attending a conference based upon the actions of their military isn't a very political move, either, Pando noted: it's "puerile" and won't stop hacking.
