Can the iPhone Save San Diego?

iPhone apps can help you find everything from a nearby restaurant to bad traffic spots. Now there's an app to help you avoid potholes in San Diego.

The app, which is called the Blight Reporter Lite, was developed by local software engineer Bill Ceglia.

Users can take a picture of a pothole with their phone and then forward it to a service. That service will then detect the GPS coordinates of where it was taken, then post it.

A version that's out now is free, but another, more-advanced version coming out later this month will be for sale.
