Report: Padre Says Girlfriend Abused Him

A San Diego Padre who was accused of beating his ex-girlfriend files a countersuit, alleging that he was a victim of domestic violence, according to a published report.

Padres' outfielder Brian Giles denies allegations made in a civil lawsuit filed by ex-girlfriend Cheri Olvera that he physically abused her. Court documents filed on Dec. 5 accuse Giles of physical abuse and seek $10 million in damages.

In late December, Giles said, "I categorically deny each and every allegation of the complaint for palimony. This is all about money."

According to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, Giles alleged that Olvera kicked him, pulled his hair, tried to stab him with a high-heel shoe and hit him with her car.

Cary Goldstein, who is defending Olvera, told the paper that "Giles is trying to justify what he did to her."

The paper also reported that Giles is trying to get a diamond engagement ring back that is worth more than $100,000.
