Puck Headlines: Paraplegics can have massive hockey brawls, too

Here are your Puck Headlines: A glorious collection of news and views collected from the greatest blogosphere in sports and the few, the proud, the mainstream hockey media.

• The Canada-U.S. sledge hockey game at UBC Arena in Vancouver last night featured players "missing legs to amputation or birth defects" and paraplegics. It also featured a massive line brawl with 1.7 seconds left after American Taylor Chace rammed goalie Paul Rosen as he froze the puck. Must. Have. Video. [Canwest]

• More Ryan Whitney trade coverage, as The Pensblog offers its inimitable views and Frank D digs the deal. The more we think about it, the more a grinding offensive forward like Chris Kunitz is a better addition than some sniper/triggerman for Crosby. [The Pensblog and Pensburgh]

• It's OK to laugh at Adam Foote for being stuck on a losing team after the shenanigans he pulled at the deadline last season, right? [Denver Post]

• The Detroit Red Wings are looking at both Ian Laperriere of the Colorado Avalanche and Gary Roberts of the Tampa Bay Lightning at the deadline. So who doubles-over in agony quicker: Penguins fans watching Roberts or Avs fans watching Lappy lift the Cup as a Red Wing? [All Things Avs]

• More Club Scarlet/Washington Capitals fallout, as Kat from HLOG offers her defense: "As for the argument that efforts like Club Scarlet and "Hockey and Heels" dumb down the sport of hockey to a female population, I say good for the teams for taking what can be a confusing game that is not popularly played in the majority of the United States and making an effort to explain it." [HLOG]

• There's also a nuts-and-bolts Club Scarlet Web site review from DC Sports Chick. [OFB]

• Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun is really fond of New York Rangers Coach John Tortorella: "Man, this guy's a pistol and when he's comfortable enough to be himself, New York will eat him up with a spoon. He will be that delicious." Two words: Restraining order ... [Sun Media]

• Four scenarios that could determine Tim Connolly's future with the Buffalo Sabres. [Die By The Blade]

Calgary Flames defenseman Adrian Aucoin bemoans the loss of poker playing on road trips: "Most teams still play cards, but we've just got a bunch of nerds on our team that play computers. The Nerd Herd--'Take me to your leader.'" You know, just because someone dares to be computer literate doesn't mean they believe in the existence of extra-terrestrials (pushes glasses up) ...  [Calgary Herald]

• Interesting stuff from the Minnesota Wild today. (This is, in fact, the first time that phrase has ever been written.) First, Goaltender Niklas Backstrom talks about the possibility of being traded if he doesn't sign before next week's Hockey Rumors Christmas. [Star Tribune]

• Meanwhile, Craig Custance talks with Wild owner Craig Leipold about Marian Gaborik's return for the postseason, and whether Minnesota can ever hope to sign both Gabby and Backstrom. [Sporting News]

• What's Russian for Superfly Snuka? [AP]

Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks on the potential deadline moves for his team: "We'd be very reluctant to do something this year that could negatively position us next year." Just keep Hull away from the phone. [Dallas Stars Blog]

• Good stuff from Eyes on the Prize as they take a look at all the potential deadline options for the Montreal Canadiens, from Chris Pronger to Ryan Smyth. Would the Predators do Jason Arnott for S. Kostitsyn, O'Byrne, Chipchura and a pick? [Eyes on the Prize]

Chris Neil and Filip Kuba are both looking for big raises from the Ottawa Senators, which probably means they'll both be looking at a flight schedule next Wednesday. [Sun Media]

• Which Toronto Maple Leafs will Brian Burke trade? Better question: Who the hell is going to meet his asking prices? [CBC Sports]

Danny Briere made Glen Metropolit and Ossi Vaananen go away. Sad face. [Broad Street Hockey]

• As he returns to the Devils tonight, Marty Brodeur says he doesn't have any butterflies in his stomach. Because there's no room, obviously. [Fire & Ice]

• Finally, there's a new award called the ScotiaBank Fan Fav award. Might as well just call it the Alexander Ovechkin Wins This Until He Retires Trophy Of Predictability:
