3:43 p.m. EST -- A couple of deals done as the clock struck deadline.

TSN reports a biggie: the Chicago Blackhawks acquire center Samuel Pahlsson from the Anaheim Ducks for James Wisniewski. Wis is an RFA this off-season; Sammy is a UFA. Our scale says:

It's a win-win, this one, as Pahlsson is on the decline but can still be a solid, veteran center that can give the Blackhawks good defense. He came cheaper than Dominic Moore would have.

The San Jose Sharks have traded for Travis Moen and Kent Huskins from the Ducks for Nick Bonnino, Tim Pihlmeye and a conditional draft pick, via TSN. That's two-thirds of the Ducks' fabled checking line sent packing today.

TSN has the Tampa Bay Lightning trading Steve Eminger to the Florida Panthers for defenseman Noah Welch and a third-round pick. Welch is an RFA after this season; you, getting traded for Steve Eminger is not an indication of power and influence.

The Calgary Flames traded goalie Kevin Lalande to the Columbus Blue Jackets for 4th-round pick, via Sportsnet.

The San Jose Sharks finally found a taker for salary cap exiled defenseman Kyle McLaren in the Philadelphia Flyers, for a sixth-round pick.

TSN is reporting the Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes still have traded to be announced.

3:23 p.m. EST -- Puck Daddy's Sean Leahy would like to put a smile on the faces of Pittsburgh Penguins fans today:

"Atlanta deals Erik Christenson to Anaheim for prospect Eric O'Dell -- the Ducks' second pick, 39th overall, last year.

"How's that Marian Hossa deal looking now? Guess the Pens still got hosed on that, eh?

"Funny how Hossa helps the Pens within 2 games of the Cup, meanwhile the others in the deal?

"Christensen: Now dealt to ANA
Armstrong: Likely to sign with Pens on July 1
Esposito: injured, out for year"

That Hossa deal would be a total win if Derek Armstrong skated back to Pittsburgh, no?

3 p.m. EST -- Jay Bouwmeester is still a member of the Florida Panthers, and shall be until the end of the season. Jacques Martin has made the decision that the offers he was given weren't up to his standards, and that the Panthers are a better team with J-Bouw than without him; and that even if Florida is without him with no compensation come July, it's worth it to push for the franchise's first playoff berth in nine years.

And now I owe Spector a beer ...

You have to feel good for two fans bases right now: The Panthers, whose team has made a decision that clearly prioritizes this season over whatever happens this summer; and Calgary Flames fans, who have witnessed their front office make an impressive and aggressive bid for the Cup in a what was commonly pegged as a two-horse race.

Meanwhile, defenseman Derek Morris goes to the New York Rangers for Dmitri Kalinin (UFA), Nigel Dawes (RFA) and Petr Prucha (RFA) ... spare parts for one of the most coveted defensemen at the deadline. And the rating is:

Gotta love this make-up move from Glen Sather, who brought in Wade Redden and now brings in another power-play quarterback. Morris certainly bolsters the blue line; and this ends the Petr Prucha era in New York. Pour a little out on the press box floor for him at the next home game.

TSN also reports that Dominic Moore of the Toronto Maple Leafs has been traded as well to the Buffalo Sabres for a second-round pick. The Atlanta Thrashers have also traded Erik Christensen for prospect Eric O'Dell of the Anaheim Ducks.

Oh, and forget all that Chris Neil-to-the-Panthers stuff. He's still a Senator and they still lack bad-assery.
