Pro Volleyballers Bringin' Sand to Valley Center

Some of the world's best professional beach volleyball players will take the sand in San Diego this May 1-3. Some of the players include 2008 Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, reported our media partner the La Jolla Light.

Their only stop in San Diego, the AVP Crocs Tour San Diego will take place at Harrah's Rincon Casino & Resort in Valley Center. Main Draw play begins on Friday at 1 p.m. and ends with both the women's and men's finals on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Not only will the event be held for the first time away from the beach, but 3,500 tons of sand will be trucked in to to Rincon to re-create the beach experience, reported the La Jolla Light.

"We are excited to try something new and different in the San Diego area," said Jason Hodell, CEO of AVP Pro Beach Volleyball. "We couldn't be more thrilled to be bringing our third stop of the AVP Crocs Tour season to fans in San Diego."

The three-day competition will also include other top players and Olympians Nicole Branagh, Elaine Youngs, Jake Gibb, Sean Rosenthal and Holly McPeak.
