Padres Pitcher Has Emergency Surgery

For the second time this week, the Padres are looking for a replacement pitcher as Tim Stauffer is recovering from emergency surgery.

First, Padres pitcher Kevin Correia was scratched from a start Sunday after his younger brother died in a fall over the weekend.

Stauffer stepped in to fill the spot Sunday and tossed five scoreless innings, according to the Padres team website.

On Tuesday morning, Stauffer called the Padres’ head trainer complaining of stomach pain around 3 a.m. while in San Francisco.

Stauffer had an emergency appendectomy and will be out an indefinite period of time, according to the team’s site.

β€œWe’re still trying to sort that out,” said GM Jed Hoyer.
