Padres Hand Out Awards

2008 Organizational Honors are no surprise

The Padres handed out their annual Organizational Awards on Thursday night.  There weren't many surprises.

First baseman Adrian Gonzalez was named team MVP for 2008.  All he did was make the All-Star team, win a Gold Glove and lead the team in home runs and RBI.  It's the second time he has won the award.

Jake Peavy was named Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year.  He led the Padres in wins and strikeouts.

Chris Young took home the Chairman's Award for contributions to the community.  Chris and his wife, Liz, work with Rady Children's Hospital and the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

The Madres Favorite New Padre award went to Jody Gerut.  The outfielder is basically the new player that women who volunteer in the front office think is the cutest.  That award is easily the most coveted of the evening.
