Khalil Greene Appears to Be Recovering

Former Padre struggling with social anxiety problems

Former San Diego Padres star infielder Khalil Greene, who was recently on the disabled list while dealing with social anxiety problems, could return to the playing field soon.

Greene, now a St. Louis Cardinal, has been playing third base during a rehab stint at Triple-A Memphis and likely would return to the lineup at that position. He played third in college but not in the Major Leagues.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Greene likely would spend more time at third base but could start at his usual shortstop spot if Joe Thurston is in the lineup. Thurston has played well as one of the fill-ins for injured third baseman Troy Glaus.

Greene went on the 15-day disabled list late last month with social anxiety issues. So far this season, he has batted .200 with two homers and 14 RBIs in 38 games.
