He denied avarice was the reason he hadn't signed a dea,l and it looked like the epic was winding down with word that he was heading back to Kansas City. Culpepper cancelled his trip at the last minute, though, so that he could explore another, better opportunity. The Lions, whom he visited today, certainly are different, but it's the first time they've been described as better in quite some time.
Of course, even this visit couldn't go all that smoothly. Sean Jensen of the Pioneer Press is reporting that a deal is done between the Lions and the quarterback while MLive.com's Tom Kowalski says that he left the Lions facility without a contract in place. Why all the cloak and dagger? Outside of Dan Orlovsky, it's hard to see who is impacted by the result of this conundrum.
Culpepper's agent, also named Daunte Culpepper, hasn't had any comment at this point, so the mystery will rage on a little longer.
