Stars' Steve Ott Suspended

Ott can also be a bit of an agitator, as seen at the end of Saturday's 4-3 loss to Anaheim. He took a couple extra whacks at Ducks defenseman Scott Niedermayer, drawing the ire of goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere and enforcer Travis Moen.

Here is video of the incident.

Ott was assessed a match penalty for gouging Moen's eye during the scuffle. You can't see that happen in the video, but it's unquestionably a dirty play on Ott's part. Ott will have a hearing with the league, where it's expected that he'll be asked to spin the Wheel of Discipline.

Stars head coach Dave Tippett is upset about what happened, but he seems more irked by the fact that no other Dallas players on the ice took up for Ott, who has been playing with a broken hand and really shouldn't be engaging in fisticuffs with a guy like Moen.

"How hard Otter plays, and guys knowing that he can't fight with a cast on his hand," Tippett said of Ott ... "We've got some people out there that are not known fighters, I understand that. I'm not asking people to jump in to fight, we're jumping in to protect."

There are other issues in Dallas. The Stars just finished a 1-5 homestand, and they're in danger of falling back out of a heated Western Conference playoff race.
