I'm going to stand by the opinion, expressed here Wednesday, that commissioner Roger Goodell's idea to expand the NFL season and cut out preseason games is a good one. But in a couple of places today, the thought has emerged that there might be some issues with it.
Bob's Blitz, citing a Seattle Post-Intelligencer story from last spring, makes the point that playing in the NFL shortens players' lives, and that adding two regular-season games per year might exacerbate that. Certainly, if that's the case, this bears a deep second look. Nobody's going to sit here and advocate the shortening of human lives in the name of more football:
