NFL FanHouse Midseason Midtacular: Coaches On the Hot Seat

NFL FanHouse Midseason Midtacular: because handing out awards at the halfway point in the season seemed like the right thing to do.

Three coaches have already been canned this season and more could be on the way. Let's take a look at who could be next on the chopping block.

Coaches On the Hot Seat nominees:
Wade Phillips, Cowboys -- Dallas has all the ingredients for a coaching change. They have woefully underperformed, players are openly complaining, there is a highly-paid replacement on the staff and they have an owner who demands results. The Cowboys have already lost more games this year than they did all of last year and run the danger of not getting into the playoffs. This was a ridiculous thought five weeks ago.Marvin Lewis, Bengals -- He falls into the classic trap of troubled head coaches. He found quick success but has watched his team go down the tubes just three years later. The Bengals own a 1-8 record after gutting out a two-point win over Jacksonville last week. There is the feeling that Lewis has been undermined by owner Mike Brown.

Herm Edwards, Chiefs -- Kansas City has lost 15 of their last 16 games. Usually that can get you fired. If not for the winless Lions, the Chiefs would be regarded as the league's worst team. The laughingstock Raiders beat these Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium. Injuries and Larry Johnson's garbage could get Edwards a pass, but this is a team going absolutely no where..

And the winner is ...

Rod Marinelli, Lions -- The Lions will either be the last team to notch its first victory of the season or become the NFL's first 0-16 team in league history. Marinelli's general manager has already been fired and ownership has written off the season by dumping their quarterback (Jon Kitna) and star receiver (Roy Williams). The Lions scream makeover and Marinelli will be the first item changed. Marinelli is a likable guy but seems to be in over his head. Detroit will hopefully approach this offseason the same way that Miami did last year, by building from scratch.
