Larry Johnson Booked For Simple Assault

First a police report, then an apology, and now the charge for Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.

Johnson, 28, was charged with simple assault for spitting a drink in a women's face after allegedly threatening to kill her boyfriend and had to post $500 bail, which I'm assuming he doesn't have to pull out of his savings.

Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said Johnson was charged Monday and turned himself in, later being released after posting a $500 bond. Snapp said the incident occurred on Oct. 10 at a Kansas City nightclub.

Since there was no weapon involved, Johnson's charge was lessened to simple assault, a misdemeanor.

Simple assault, as defined by the U.S. Department of Justice, is "unlawful threatening, attempted inflicting, or inflicting of less than serious bodily injury, in the absence of a deadly weapon," which would fit perfect in this situation, unless the ice was really sharp.

The NFL has yet to come down on Johnson, but a formal suspension is in the works because of violation of the team rules. The leading rusher for the Chiefs missed his second straight game because of the incident, a loss to the New York Jets, 28-24.
