Ducks Dominate Avalanche, Extend Winning Streak to 5 Games

Ducks 7, Avalanche 2: This game won't be showing up on the career highlight film for Andrew Raycroft, as the veteran netminder surrendered four goals on just eight shots during the second period of Anaheim's 7-2 thrashing of Colorado. Corey Perry scored a pair of goals for the Ducks, while rookie Andrew Ebbett added a goal and two assists in the win.

Hurricanes 2, Senators 1: The Senators improbable run toward a playoff spot was fun to follow, but Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Carolina effectively ended their hopes for a trip to the postseason. Valiant effort, no doubt, but it's going to end up being too little, too late. Rod Brind'Amour and Anton Babchuk scored for the Hurricanes, while Cam Ward turned aside 21-of-22 shots in net.

Sabres 5, Panthers 3:
While Ottawa had its slim postseason hopes squashed, Buffalo managed to stay alive with a 5-3 win over Florida. The Sabres trailed, 3-1, early in the third period, before they scored three goals in less than two minutes to take a 4-3 lead. Maxim Afinogenov scored an empty-netter to seal the win, while a scuffle broke out along the boards immediately following the goal.

The Rest Of Wednesday's Action

Marc-Andre Fleury stops 31 shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season in Pittsburgh's 2-0 win over Calgary.

Marian Gaborik scores a goal and adds two assists in Minnesota's 6-2 win over the Islanders.

Chicago beats San Jose in a shootout, 6-5, despite watching a two-goal lead disappear late in the third period.

Thursday's Key Games

-- The giant puddle outside of the Bell Centre is simply the Montreal media collectively drooling at the thought of Vincent Lecavalier and the Tampa Bay Lightning visiting the Canadiens on Thursday. Montreal enters play just two points ahead of Florida for the No. 8 spot, as the Panthers travel to the city of brotherly love for a tough game with the Flyers.

-- The Blues, refusing to go away quietly in the Western Conference race, look to continue their playoff push when they host the Vancouver Canucks. Good news for the Blues: if they do make the playoffs, Paul Kariya could be available.

-- Other games of interest in the west: Nashville hosts San Jose, Edmonton travels to Phoenix and Columbus hosts Calgary.
