Ex-Pro Ball Player In Court

A former professional football player accused of attacking his girlfriend in San Diego is back in legal hot water.

A judge ruled Wednesday that Lawrence Phillips, 33, will face charges of domestic violence, false imprisonment and tampering with a phone line. Phillips assaulted and choked his 28-year-old girlfriend into unconsciousness in Mission Valley in August 2005, according to prosecutors, who also said he assulted the same woman 11 days later.

Phillips was arrested for driving his car into three teenagers following a dispute during a pickup football game in 2006. He was convicted in Los Angeles of assault with a deadly weapon and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

If convicted on the new charges, he will face 20 years behind bars.
