Escondido Mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler will be jumping on one of the Bolts’ private jets to head to Denver for Sunday’s game.
The lobbying effort comes just two weeks after Escondido suspended its pursuit of a new stadium for the San Diego Chargers. The team has been considering a location not too far from PETCO Park downtown. The proposed Escondido stadium would be built southeast of where Interstate 15 intersects Highway 78.

Pfeiler will also be lobbying Spanos to join a fundraising effort to cover a $1 billion funding shortfall for a public hospital being in Escondido. The ethics of Pfeiler's trip, which includes not only the flight, but a hotel stay and dinner with Spanos, were questioned Thursday by officials from the California Fair Political Practices Commission. City Attorney Jeff Epp told the paper Pfeiler was in the clear because the city is reimbursing the Chargers for the flight and hotel stay.
"I'm very confident it's not an issue for the commission, because nobody's taking any freebies from the Chargers," Epp told the paper, "It's an area that could be loaded with pitfalls, so we were sticklers."
