Wanted: A Few Good Men

ABA Surfs Back in to San Diego

San Diego's has a new professional American Basketball Association (ABA) team, the San Diego Surf.

Preceded by the San Diego Wildcats (which cancelled their season in January 2009), the San Diego Surf will play for the 2009-10 season and beyond. Several of the former Wildcats players have been contracted to play for the Surf.

Preliminary tryouts were held back in August and another round is just around the corner! The Surf will host its second round of open tryouts September 20 at the Mission Valley YMCA, starting at 4 p.m.

The first round of tryouts brought in both local and international players. Head coach Terry Mason said it went smoothly and was a big success.

"We plan to be competitive this season," said Mason.

League play starts December 5 and home games will be played at the Cathedral High School Arena on Del Mar Heights Road.
