Viva Las Vegas For Toreros

The West Coast Conference Tournament has moved to Las Vegas for the first time, and the Toreros of USD are hoping to hit the jackpot this weekend.

They might have felt fortunate on the first night to draw the WCC's worst team in Loyola Marymount.  The Toreros needed a big second half to beat the Lions 62-56.  They'll face Santa Clara in the quarter-finals Saturday night at 6 PM.

Gyno Pomare, who knows a loss will end his college career, played like it.   18 points, and eight rebounds for Pomare. Roberto Mafra chipped in with 14 for the Toreros.

The USD women also advanced with a 73-64 victory over San Francisco.  Kiva Herman led the Toreros with 20 points.
