UNLV Finally Beats the Aztecs

SDSU's 11-game winning streak over the Rebels ends in Las Vegas

Aztecs guard Trey Kell has had a rough go his senior year. The man who was being counted on to take the big shots at the end of games has had a pair of leg injuries and even pneumonia this year, but kept coming back and fighting through it.

On Saturday night in Las Vegas the St. Augustine High School product suffered another injury, landing on a UNLV player's foot and spraining his ankle in the first half. Without him the Aztecs suffered an 88-78 loss, snapping their 11-game winning streak against the Rebels.

Jeremy Hemsley tried to make up for Kell's absence, scoring a team-high 19 points off the bench, but SDSU's defensive effort was lacking.

Cathedral Catholic High School alum Brandon McCoy scored a game-high 21 points against his home-town team making nine of his 12 shots from the field.

With the loss the Aztecs are now 4-5 in Mountain West play, dropping to 8th place in the conference.
