Winning 12 straight baseball games is not easy to do. Winning 12 straight with eight of them coming in the post-season is even more difficult.
But that's exactly what the U.C. San Diego Tritons have done to earn themselves a spot in the Division-II College World Series.
The Tritons beat 9th-ranked Azusa Pacific 8-7 on Monday afternoon to win the West Regional championship for the second straight season.
UCSD fell behind 7-1 by the top of the 5th inning but with the way their offense has been rolling (outscoring opponents 125-29 during their winning streak) they're never really out of a game. They got back-to-back home runs from Nick Kitzmann and Steven Schuknecht in the 8th inning to cut the lead to 7-6.
In the bottom of the 9th inning APU turned to one of their best players, pitcher Layne Henderson, and he could not find the plate. Henderson hit one batter and walked three more to force home the tying run. With the infield in Michael Palos hit a ground ball past shortstop to plate the title-winning run.
Last year the Tritons came one win short of a national title. This year they'll be one of the teams to beat in Cary, NC.
