Trojan Blood in San Diego?

There will be many head-coaching openings, possibly as many as three on the West Coast, but the USC coach has a good thing going and would have much to consider before returning to NFL, according to a published report.

Among the locations that could be enticing for Carroll -- San Diego.  But Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith told the Los Angeles Times he isn't giving up control there, and one bad season isn't going to unwind all the smart personnel decisions he has made in recent years. He has already said Norv Turner will be the coach next season.

"Carroll probably could have an NFL job if he wanted it. But as good a coach as Carroll is, there's absolutely no guarantee he would succeed in the NFL," the report says.
