Toreros Embarrassed By Lions

It's Bill Grier's most embarrassing loss as head coach at USD.  The Lions of Loyola Marymount were winless in the West Coast Conference, and had just one victory for the season.  They still defeated the Toreros 65-57 in Los Angeles.

LMU held a one point lead at the half 30-29.  The Toreros cameback to lead briefly early in the second half, but never really got into an offensive flow.  USD shot just 36 per cent from the field in falling to 13-12, 5-5 in the WCC.

Rob Jones had a double-double to lead San Diego with 14 points, and 11 rebounds.  Vernon Teel did it all for the Lions.  Teel had 21 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

Just last weekend Grier told his players to remember their late season run that propelled them to a West Coast Conference tournament title, and an NCAA Tournament bid. The Toreros responded with a win over the University of San Francisco, but quickly forgot the coaches message at Loyola Marymount
