Tiger is Back, and He's Bad

Woods Looks Good in His First Tournament Back

Want to know how much Tiger Woods means to the P-G-A Tour? Last Friday he announced he was going to be playing in this week's Match Play Championship. Over the next four days, the tournament sold 40,000 tickets.

Yes, Tiger is kind of a big deal.  People know him.  And they need him.  On Wednesday, Tiger hit his first competitive shots since June's U-S Open win at Torrey Pines.  Most of them were right on the money.  Woods did show a bit of rust but was still able to completely overmatch Brendan Jones.

After a birdie on his first hole, Tiger launched a perfect approach on the second.  Jones conceded the eagle putt and it was pretty much over.  Tiger won 3-and-2, he gets Tim Clark in the 2nd round.

San Diegans Phil Mickelson and Pat Perez also won their first round matches.
