The Perfect Homestand

When the Padres left Chicago 10 days ago, they were staggering and nine games under 500. Now, after sweeping the Cubs at PETCO they're back at 500 and feeling good.

Chris Young won it Sunday with his arm and his bat. A two-run single off Ted Lilly gave the Pads the early 2-0 lead. Kevin Kouzmanoff homered in the seventh and had four RBIs to lead San Diego to a 7-2 win over the punchless Chicago Cubs on Sunday, capping the Padres' first 9-0 homestand.

San Diego's nine-game winning streak is the longest in the National League this season. Even so, it merely pulled the Padres back to .500. They also swept the Reds and the Giants on this homestand.

The Cubs, whose offense disappeared during an 0-6 trip, lost their season-high seventh straight and tumbled to .500. It's their longest losing streak since May 2006, when they lost eight straight.
