That Hurts!

The Diamondbacks won the game with a walk-off single by Aaron Hill in the bottom of the 10th inning. His liner scored Adam Eaton, giving Arizona a 10-9 victory.

Neither starter was involved in the decision. Ian Kennedy, pitching against his former team, pitched poorly for the Padres. He didn't get out of the fifth inning, giving up six earned runs and five walks. Diamondbacks starter David Holmberg was equally ineffective. He got the hook in the fourth after allowing three earned runs along with three walks.

The Padres let an early three run lead slip away and actually trailed 7-3 before tying the game up with four in the top of the eighth inning.

Heath Bell pitched one inning and got the win. Dale Thayer took the loss.

Chase Headley left the game after the fourth with back spasms. The Padres used a club record five different players at third base.

The Friars will try to avoid the series sweep Wednesday night at Chase Field.
