Team Oracle USA Skipper Sends Controversial Tweet

Team Oracle’s skipper took the fight for the America’s Cup from the water to Twitter Sunday morning.

In a tweet that created a lot of backlash, Jimmy Spithill said, “No need for a hash tag,” and attached a photo of a sign on a notice board that read, “There is no ‘I’ in just beat the.”

America’s Cup officials asked Spithill to take the post down within an hour. He said it was humor that did not go over too well.

“I think if you get offended easily, you should probably stay away from the social media world 'cause if you look at some of my Twitter messages, it’s quite frightening," Spithill said. "Yeah, I mean, look, in hindsight, it would have been a lot better if it didn’t have the f-bomb in it for sure."

In the short time the tweet was up, Americans appeared to support Spithill, while not surprisingly, New Zealand fans did not.
