Strasburg, Nationals Agree To Extension

Former SDSU Star Plans To Stay in D.C.

Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals agreed on a long-term extension Monday.

His new deal is worth $175 million over 7 years.

The story was first reported by M-L-B Network's Jon Heyman.

The former San Diego State star and West Hills High alum was the 1st overall pick in 2009 draft. He is earning over 10 million dollars this season and was expected to hit the free agent market at the end of the year.

Strasburg can also opt out after his 3rd and 4th year of the extension.

Ironically, Strasburg gave up four runs in the 6th inning of his Monday start against the Detroit Tigers but when he left the game, fans gave him a standing ovation – presumably because news of the deal had already gotten out.
