Spangenberg Walkoff Wins it

It has been quite a debut for Padres rookie Cory Spangenberg. On Monday he made two fine defensive plays and drove in the go-ahead runs against the Diamondbacks. On Tuesday he delivered a walkoff win for the Padres.

With nobody on and one out Spangenberg came up to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth. He liked the first pitch he saw from Arizona reliever Brad Ziegler and promptly deposited it in the right field bleachers for a 2-1 Padres win.

Lost in the excitement was the job Padres starter Odrisamer Despaigne did on the hill. Although he failed to get the decision Despaigne went seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits.

Game three of the series is Wednesday night at Petco Park.
