LaDainian Tomlinson says the thought of playing with Mark Sanchez as his quarterback was the "main reason" he chose to sign with the New York Jets in the offseason.
After nine years with San Diego, Tomlinson was released by the Chargers in February and courted by both the Jets and Minnesota Vikings. The seventh-leading rusher in NFL history says Tuesday that when he looked at being in the backfield with Sanchez, he thought, "I want to come here because of him."
Tomlinson adds that he and Brett Favre exchanged text messages about the running back coming to Minnesota, but the Vikings quarterback never indicated whether he was going to return to the team or retire.
Tomlinson says that made his decision to join the Jets easier.
