San Diego Fleet Hire Former Aztec Az-Zahir Hakim

The San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football have added to their coaching staff. The Fleet hired former San Diego State Aztec and NFL player Az-Zahir Hakim to be their wide receivers coach.

The San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) hired former San Diego State and NFL player Az-Zahir Hakim as wide receivers coach.

Hakim played at San Diego State from 1994 to 97.  His best season with the Aztecs was his sophomore year, when he was an All-Western Conference (WAC) second-team selection,  starting 12 games with a career-high 57 receptions for 1,022 yards and eight touchdowns.

Hakim was selected in the 4th round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams.  Hakim played parts of 10 NFL seasons with the Rams, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins.

His career highlight was winning a Super Bowl with the Rams as a member of the "Greatest Show on Turf."  Hakim eared All-Pro honors in 2000.

In addition to Hakim, other the Fleet announced other coaching staff hires with NFL experience.

John Kitna, offensive coordinator

Larry Marmie, defensive coordinator

Dre Bly, defensive backs coach

Anthony Becht, tight ends coach

Mike Martz was previously announced as head coach of the Fleet.

The San Diego Fleet and the AAF inaugural season begins in February of 2019.
