San Diegans Garza, Abbiate Named to Paralympic Team Training Camp Roster

The 2016 Rio Summer Paralympic Games start in September and U.S. Paralympic soccer head coach Stuart Sharp named two San Diegans to his training camp roster.

Midfielders David Garza (Chula Vista) and Mason Abbiate (San Diego) will head to Bradenton, Florida, April 3rd-9th to prepare for a tournament in Spain. Coach Sharp told USSoccer.com he called 16-players to camp to, “assess and support the return to action of some of our long term injured players, as well as prepare some of our newer squad members into our system of play.”

Garza said, “It’s always an honor to be called into training camp and it’s incredible to see the growth and development of the team from my first camp with Coach Sharp in January 2013.” He added, “I’m beyond excited for the near future with our upcoming tournaments that will help us prepare for the biggest tournament in our game, the Paralympics.”

After camp a squad of players will head to the 2016 Pre-Paralympic Tournament in Setubal, Spain, April 24th-May 8th. The Paralympic games are September 7-18 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. You can watch them on NBC 7.
