San Diego State Blows Out Buffalo in Potato Bowl

Aztecs beat Buffalo 49-24

On the first day of the college “Bowl Season,” San Diego State Football Coach Rocky Long won his first bowl game as Aztecs coach, leading the team to a 49-24 win over Buffalo at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Although cold temperatures in Boise, Idaho, a powerful Buffalo team, and Coach Long's lack of bowl wins were seen as negatives going in, nothing could slow the Aztecs down.

The team jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Quarterback Quinn Kaehler’s 1st quarter TD run. That lead swelled to 28-10 at half, thanks to a 25-yard Kaehler to Dylan Denso touchdown pass just before halftime.

In the 2nd half, the Aztecs kept on rolling behind Adam Muema. The junior running back had 28 carries for 229 yards and 3 TD’s.

As the temperatures dipped below freezing and the clock dipped toward zero, Aztec players gave Coach Long a victorious Gatorade shower.

After two consecutive bowl game loses, Coach Long now has a bowl game victory to go with his 25 regular season wins as SDSU's head coach.

The Aztecs finish the season with a record of 8-5.
