SDSU to Host NCAA Tourney in 2014

Diehard college hoops fans will want to clear their schedules for March 21 and March 23 in 2014

March Madness will arrive to San Diego in 2014 now that San Diego State University has won its bid to host the NCAA event for the third time.

The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee notified SDSU officials Monday that the campus will play host to teams in the second and third rounds of the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

If you’re a diehard college hoops fan, you’ll want to clear your schedule for March 21 and March 23. There will be four matches in the second round and two matches in the third round. The winners will advance to the NCAA regional competition.

Eight teams will play in four games in the second round. Four teams advance to play in the third round with the winners in those two games advancing to NCAA regional competition.

Even if they qualify for the tournament, the Aztecs men’s basketball team will not be eligible to play in San Diego.

In 2001 and 2006, SDSU and Viejas Arena (formerly Cox Arena) played host to the NCAA first and second Rounds.

The 2014 Final Four will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
