They call it Q-School. Every December, golfers with dreams of playing on the PGA Tour meet in the PGA Qualifying Tournament, six straight days of pressure-packed golf. This year players had to finish 19-under to earn a Tour Card for 2009.
Madison High School alum Chris Riley made it on the number. Riley found himself in a greenside bunker on 18, but made a tremendous shot from the sand to within four feet. He made the par putt, earning a spot on Tour for next season.
Riley was a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2004, but has not won a PGA event since 2002. He could not have picked a better day to get back on golf's biggest biggest stage. Monday is his 35th birthday. Happy Birthday, Chris. See you at Torrey Pines for the Buick Invitational.
