Replacing Khalil Greene: 1 of 2 Players Named

The Padres acquired right-handed pitcher Mark Worrell and a player to be named later from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for infielder Khalil Greene, said Executive vice president/general manager Kevin Towers.

"We are happy to add Mark Worrell to our team," said Towers. "He's a talented young pitcher, who we are confident will contribute to our bullpen in 2009. I also want to thank Khalil for all he did for the Padres. He helped us win two division championships, and he leaves us with many great memories of his performance on the field."

Worrell, 25, made his Major League debut with the Cardinals in 2008, going 0-1 in four relief appearances. Worrell spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Memphis.
