Poway Native Ranked One of Nation's Top-10

LJCDHS alum Kelsey Plum is one of the NCAA's best basketball players

Kelsey Plum kicks off her junior season with the University of Washington women’s basketball team with high expectations.

The Poway native and La Jolla Country Day alum was ranked number ten in ESPNW’s top-25 players in the country. Plum also enters the season as an All-American candidate.

After a stellar sophomore season, the honors are no surprise. Last year Plum led the Pac-12 in scoring and finished second in the nation for free throws made. She was also a Wooden Top-15 nominee, WBCA All-Region Selection and was named to her second consecutive All-Pac 12 team.

Last year in their opener at Oklahoma, Plum set a UW school record for points with 45. She finished the season with seven 30-point games and 21 20-point games, both school records.

In her freshman year with the Huskies, Plum won 2014 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors and was a seven-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week winner.

Plum also thrives on the worldwide stage. In 2013 she was named to the USA Basketball U19 team and this summer was a member of the Pan American team.

The Plum family is synonymous with athletic success in San Diego. Kelsey was a stand out at La Jolla Country Day, and her father Jim Plum was a four-year letter winner in football and baseball at San Diego State University.
