Peavy's Future Still Up in the Air

The Padres will still try to deal, but there aren't many suitors

Jake Peavy will not play for the Chicago Cubs.  At least, not as of Thursday, December 11th, 2008.  What happens in the near (or even distant) future is anybody's guess.  In an interview with radio station XX 1090 General Manager Kevin Towers said the deal is not dead, because that would mean it could never resuscitate.  The main reason seems to be the Cubs just did not want to take on Jake's sizeable salary and part with some of its young talent.  So, as of right now, Jake is not going anywhere, not even Anaheim.

Some online reports claim the Angels are interested and have already offered a package of players to Peavy.  Towers said Los Angeles also asked for 1st baseman Adrian Gonzalez.  It took him just under 3 seconds to say no to that.

So, it looks more and more like Jake Peavy will be wearing a Padres uniform on opening day.  However, he likely will not be wearing one when the 2009 season ends.  Expect trade offers for Jake to come rolling in again near baseball's trade deadline in July.
