Padres Lose Another Catcher

Friars Also Claim 2nd Basemen From Giants

The Padres overhaul continued Friday with the departure of another catcher.

Michael Barrett has decided to become a free agent and won't be back for a third season in San Diego. Barrett spent 115 games on the disabled list in 2008 and had only 19 hits.

In other moves, the Friars claimed second baseman Travis Denker from the San Francisco Giants. The 23-year-old hit .243 in limited action with San Francisco. The Padres are in the midst of a youth movement. Of the 33 players currently on the roster, 27 of them are under the age of 30.
