Padres closer Trevor Hoffman is used to helping out at the end of games. He's also used to helping out in the community, and that's why he won the Branch Rickey Award Thursday from Major League Baseball.
The award is given annually to players who contribute unselfishly in their city or community, and also act as role models for young people.
Past winners of the Branch Rickey Award include Tony Gwynn and Dave Winfield.
