Padres to Call up Top Prospect Urias

One of the most-hyped young players in baseball is coming to Petco Park

The Padres future arrives on Tuesday night. One major part of it, at least.

Infielder Luis Urias, the #22 prospect in all of baseball, is going to be recalled from Triple-A El Paso and be available for his Major League debut at Petco Park against the Mariners.

This is a moment Friars fans have been awaiting for a long time. The 21-year-old Urias has been an All-Star the last three seasons. In 2016 it was in the California League … in 2017 it was in the Texas League … and this year it was in the Pacific Coast League. He represented the World Team at the MLB Futures Game, a meeting of the best young players in the game, during this year's All-Star Game festivities in Washington, D.C.

Urias, a native of Sonora, Mexico who was signed as a 16-year-old from the Mexico City Red Devils, opened eyes during his first big league Spring Training and has been tearing the cover off the ball of late. He’s riding a 15-game hitting streak and in the month of August sports a .420 batting average with 15 extra-base hits. In his minor league career he has a ridiculous .397 on-base percentage and only 24 more strikeouts than walks.

Basically this kid is incredibly difficult to get out, something the Padres could use in an anemic offense.

Urias is the first of the top-level, superior prospects in the San Diego system to get the call to The Show and in a season that’s been mostly lost he’ll put a nice jolt of excitement into a long-suffering fan base.
